OSGi Runtime of mBS SDK
The OSGi Runtime contains ProSyst's cleanroom implementation of the OSGi Core and Compendium specifications (Release 4.2). This implementation is optimized for embedded use cases and is used in significant number of commercial embedded devices. It offers advanced features such as:
- Resource management for separate bundles or a set of bundles, lazy activation / deactivation of bundles
- Advanced configuration policy
- Advanced security policy
- Improved logging framework
- Localization support
- Close integration with JVMs like Websphere Everyplace Custom Environment (J9) by Microdoc
- Support for many additional JVMs
- OS utilities
mBS comes with the following set of enhanced / generic bundles which form a powerfull and easily extensible software stack for building various types of devices:
- Software Admin – for download and installation of software packages
- Network Manager – for reading and changing LAN and WAN network settings
- Firewall Manager - for changing the firewall settings
- Object Database Mapper – for providing interfaces to object and relational data bases
- Serial Bundle – provides OSGi API for accessing the serial port
- USB Bundle – provideds OSGi API for USB
- SL/TLS support for the OSGi Runtime.
- Web Services Bundle – allows to export OSGi bundels as web services and to access web services through OSGi services
- Management Components – support for remote device management (e.g. OMA DM, TR-69) and content downloading
The OSGi Runtime is well integrated with the underlying operating system and provides reliable resource management, fault control, and recovery mechanisms.
