ProSyst joins the Broadband Forum

ProSyst contributes to the development of the most open and standardized Home Gateway Middleware Stack meeting BBF specs, HGI specs and OSGi REG specs as well as supporting standard protocols such as UPnP and ZigBee.

Cologne, January 29, 2010 - ProSyst Software GmbH (www.prosyst.com), an OSGi pioneer, announced today that it has become a member of the Broadband Forum (www.broadband-forum.org).

The Broadband Forum (BBF) is the central organization driving broadband wireline solutions and empowering converged packet networks worldwide to better meet the needs of vendors, service providers and their customers.
BBF develops multi-service broadband packet networking specifications addressing interoperability, architecture and management. BBF work enables home, business and converged broadband services, encompassing customer, access and backbone networks.

"Standardization and interoperability are key success factors in the connected home" said Kai Hackbarth, Evangelist at ProSyst. "There are a lot of local and proprietary solutions out there, but only a standardized approach will lead to a break-through in interoperability and the seamless delivery of services. That’s why ProSyst welcomes the liason between HGI and OSGi as well as BBF and is closely involved in helping to tie those standards together. At the same time, it allows ProSyst to be at the forefront when it comes to offering products that  are truly standard compliant.”

The ProSyst solution includes CPE middleware as well as a remote management and provisioning system that enables broadband service providers to control and manage home gateway software by installing, updating, uninstalling as well as starting and stopping software modules, while the underlying firmware remains untouched.

Until today, operators mostly buy home gateways on the basis of fairly rigid RFQ specifications and it is not easy to update them or add new services at a later date. With the new approach the gateways become scalable. In addition, the extensive remote management capabilities allow to improve the quality of technical support and service and thereby help to create highly satisfied broadband subscribers which is key to customer retention.

The combination of OSGi, HGI and BBF standards in one software solution allow broadband  providers to provide services and manage home gateways in a way widely accepted by market participants from a wide spectrum of industries. Moreover, they can benefit from a growing amount of off-the-shelf content and are open to innovative applications from a large community of developers.
